Bleach Festival Artist Profile: SurfSisters Shelli Bankier
Additional Info

SurfSister contributor Shelli Bankier’s ocean imagery speaks of moments in time. Shelli has been instrumental to Bleach*, serving as both the event’s Assistant Curator as well as one of the festival’s contributing artists.
Now one of the few women on the surf industry arena, Shelli grew up on the ocean sailing around the world on a yacht with her family, an experience that has shaped her life and instilled in her a deep love of the ocean.
Shelli became the second female photographer to be published in Australia’s Surfing Life magazine, and since then opened Inverse Gallery in Burleigh Heads for a period of time, and has widely exhibited her prints. Her surf and ocean photography steps away from commercialism, and is a way for Shelli to connect with and share the beautiful grace of the ocean.
“Being blessed to live on one of the most beautiful coastlines on the globe, and having travelled and learnt from some of the best surf photographers in the world, I am able to paint with my camera, to capture these singular moments in time. I like to let my photography speak for itself, to create a scenic ambience, a free sense of space and bring the Ocean in through the windows of my images.”
