The super skilled benefit from SUP in the waves and the super flexible use yoga on the days when there’s a lull in the swell. Combine the two and you have SUP Yoga, which is exactly what is happening at the Southern Cross SUP Festival 2012.
Surfboard glasser and all-round top guy Ian Smith (dad to Chris, Matt, Tanny and Lew) is still wheelchair bound after suffering a stroke last year while surfing out at Billinga on the Gold Coast. Luckily he managed to make it to shore where he was found by two passersby who raised the alarm. For those who know how deserted Bilinga can get, this was beyond fortunate. However Ian suffered a second stroke while in hospital, and was left unable to walk and struggles with speech and co-ordination.
The clock is ticking down and the Australian Open of Surfing site is going up!
