Bethany’s story hits the big screen and Hollywood producers were certainly correct – her comeback story has made good cinema. Back in 2004 the first interest in Bethany’s story becoming a movie showed face, and the story landed in the hands of Brookwell McNamara Entertainment, Stoked Productions, Enticing Entertainment, Island Film Group and Mandalay to be released by FilmDistrict and Sony’s TriStar Pictures.

SOUL SURFER is the true story of competitive teen surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm in a shark attack and courageously overcame all odds to become a champion again, inspiring millions worldwide through her sheer determination and unwavering faith. In theaters around the world starting on April 8, 2011, this exciting feature film stars AnnaSophia Robb, Helen Hunt, Carrie Underwood in her film debut, and Dennis Quaid. The cast also includes Lorraine Nicholson, Kevin Sorbo and Jeremy Sumpter.

Bethany’s story will be the subject of a feature motion picture based on her nonfiction book, “Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family and Fighting to Get Back on the Board” and her documentary, “Heart of a Soul Surfer,” which serve as the inspiration for the screenplay.
