MOVE OVER, DR. PHIL.
Two Surfer Chicks Are Ready With Relationship Advice in New Book. Nancy Spooner Bsharah and Tara Brouwer believe surfing can help you sort out your relationship woes. The duo have co-authored, 'EVERYTHING I Know About DATING I Learned Through SURFING'—a surfer’s version of a self-help book.
'EVERYTHING I Know About DATING I Learned Through SURFING' is a beautifully illustrated book filled with nuggets like, “Don’t always believe the surf report. Get out there and judge the waves for yourself” and “Trust your gut when it’s time to bail.” Authors, athletes and entrepreneurs Nancy and Tara share tips, anecdotes and a few embarrassing but comical stories about their life in the competitive world of dating.
After her divorce, Nancy, a native Californian and outdoor sports enthusiast (she completed an Ironman!), took off on an all-girl surf trip to El Salvador to learn how to surf. Suddenly, she was in love again—but this time with her surfboard, the ocean and the new pack of pals she met through surfing.
Michigan native, Tara, took up surfing in her early 20’s while visiting a friend in LA. She moved to southern California four years later to continue the sport more repeatedly. The women met through surfing, a friendship quickly developed and the similarities between dating and surfing appeared before their salty eyes.
“I learned how to surf in my mid 30s, was newly single and new to surfing,” said Nancy. “I was struck by how all of the surfing tips I was receiving sounded like dating advice as well. So I started keeping a journal, joking that someday I’d have enough quotes to write a book,” she said.
Books will only be sold on Kickstarter.com until the crowd-funding ends on July 20th. After that date, book will be available on their website, Amazon.com and in local surf shops and specialty stores in the San Diego area.
