ASP Women’s Star Events
CAPBRETON, France (Saturday, September 24, 2011) – The ASP PRIME Billabong Azores Islands Pro and the ASP 6-Star Billabong Girls Azores Islands Pro are scheduled to kick-off with the women’s event starting Monday, September 26, 2011 followed by the men’s event on Tuesday in the idyllic location of Riveira Grande on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores archipelago.
The World’s best male and female surfers will converge to battle it out for the huge amount of points available for their respective ASP world rankings. The ASP PRIME Billabong Azores Islands Pro will see the men throw down their final challenge before leaving Europe to enter the elite Top 32 and thus qualify for the elite ASP World Tour in 2012. Surfers such as Gabriel Medina (BRA), Pat Gudauskas (USA), C.J. Hobgood (USA) as well as top Europeans Tiago Pires (PRT), Aritz Aranburu (EUK) and Tim Boal (FRA) will be on hand to do battle for the $250,000USD prize pool up for grabs.
The ASP 6-Star Billabong Girls Azores Islands Pro is the final Star-rated event on the ASP women’s calendar for 2012 making it the last chance for qualification into the Top 6 on the ASP Women’s Star Tour rankings and thus qualify for the 2012 ASP Women’s World Tour. The pressure will be on and leading the European charge will be Pauline Ado (FRA) alongside hopeful qualifiers Justine Dupont (FRA) and Cannelle Bulard (REU).
Both the ASP PRIME Billabong Azores Islands Pro and the ASP 6-Star Billabong Girls Azores Islands Pro are set to be major events on the ASP world calendar and with the swell window at an optimum and a high class field of athletes already confirmed the scene is set for a spectacular week of surfing action.
