Surfing Australia
Isabella Nicholls, Talent To Burn
Additional Info

Hive Swimwear teamrider Isabella Nicholls 'got pipped at the post' at Coffs Harbour last weekend in the Australian Surfing Titles final but it wont deter her. Isabella surfed solidly from the hooter sound to build a solid lead over the three other competitors but fancied Holly-Sue Coffey nabbed a nice wave in the dying minutes to take out a 15.25 v 13.25 point victory over Isabella.
Competitive athletes like Isabella never like coming second but she is aware that she needs to continue to focus on the process of doing well rather than the outcome. Fourteen year old Isabella will be able to compete in the same age group next year and hopes to be a contender for the title again. Isabella believes in her efforts.
Isabella (with family support) will build up an entourage to give herself a chance at succeeding in surfing. Isabella breathes surfing and wants to take her surfing further! It is a long road ahead but Isabella just may have to talent to take on the best. Seven times world champion Layne Beachley presented Isabella as the surfer with "Best Potential" at a recent camp at the High Performance Center (Cabarita) which was a boost to her confidence.
It will be worth keeping an eye on Isabella over the next few years. Isabella will practise on the beach breaks at her home break at Coolum under the guidance of surf coach Brad Lee and will also benefit from fitness guidance/mentoring with Olympic Sports Physiotherapist Peter Hogg from Noosa. There are no secrets: practise, coaching, physical training, recovery, nutrition and ongoing goal setting. A very proven conventional system that has modelled some of Australia's best sporting talent.
Isabella will compete next week in the Rip Curl Grom Search which will be held on the Sunshine Coast. It is another chance to experience competition against the best in the country.
Isabella will make her first international trip to Indonesia next year to hone her skills and gain further confidence. The exposure to serious and consistent waves will be a positive to her skill set. Hive Swimwear is sponsoring her travels to give her a chance at success. This sports fashion swimwear company is a big supporter of Isabella and her untapped potential.
Surf Sister will receive images from her upcoming surf camp in May. Isabella wants to get barrelled.
